  1. Vanilla is any climbing orchid of the genus

  3. cultivated elsewhere, with fragrant, large, 
  4. white or yellow flowers. The dried and 
  5. fermented fruit, or podlike capsules, of 
  6. Vanilla planifolia are the source of the 
  7. vanilla flavouring used in cookery and 
  8. baking.
